A new chapter at Stamford Bridge has begun as Isago Silva, son of former Brazil and Chelsea defender Thiago Silva, has signed his first professional contract with the club.
The 17-year-old defender, who arrived at Chelsea’s academy alongside his younger brother Iago Silva when his father moved to London in 2020, has steadily climbed the ranks and now takes the next step in a family story steeped in footballing pedigree.
A legacy in blue
Isago’s journey is part inheritance, part hard work. While Thiago Silva, now 41, departed Chelsea in 2024 to return to Brazil with Fluminense after a glittering spell that included Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup triumphs, his son has remained at the Blues, carving out his own identity within the academy.
Isago joined Chelsea at under-13 level and has since progressed through the age groups, making his Under-18 debut in the 2024–25 season.
Versatility and promise
Chelsea’s coaching staff have praised Isago as a versatile and reliable defender, comfortable at both left-back and centre-back.
This season, he has featured across the club’s U17 and U18 Premier League Cup campaigns and was even included among the 33 academy players registered in Chelsea’s Champions League squad for the home fixture against Ajax in October, a sign of the club’s belief in his potential.
The next step
Signing a first professional contract is a milestone, but for Isago it is also a beginning. With senior pathways opening and a family name that carries weight, the young defender now faces the challenge of turning promise into performance.
Chelsea’s academy has handed him the keys; how he uses them will shape whether the Silva legacy at Stamford Bridge becomes a two-generation story of lasting impact.
